Running in Sussex

Sussex is a beautiful countrside to traverse and there are many fantastic runs and clubs in the County. Haywards Heath is fortunate to be home to the largest Athletcis Club in Mid sussex, the Haywards Heath Harriers, with over 300 members. The club has been around for a long time and was the place that our lovely Olympian, Daly Thompson, first got into athletics. The Town is also part of the Mid Sussex Marathon Weekend, boasting the Haywards Heath 10 mile chellenge as part of this 26.2 mile challenge. Over 1000 runns took part in the three day event in 2017 and it will return from its sixth year in 2018. There is a weekly Parkrun in Clair Park (5k) and a Junior Parkrun.

Sussex is home to some striking countrside with trails at all levels for runners. The South Downs Way and runs through the High Weald and along the coast are some of the most beautiful but there are many smaller and less challenging runs through historic towns and country parks and woodlands. There are many marathons, half marathons and fun runs across Sussex and a variety of running clubs from beginners through to endurance running and racing.

Mid Sussex Marathon

The Town is also part of the Mid Sussex Marathon Weekend, boasting the Haywards Heath 10 mile challenge as part of this 26.2 mile challenge. Over 1000 runs took part in the three day event in 2017 and it will return from its eighth year in 2020.

Haywards Heath Harriers

The Haywards Heath Harriers are the largest Athletics Club in Mid Sussex, catering for adult and young athletes aged 9 upwards of all abilities. The aim of the club is to encourage, promote and develop running and athletics in the Mid Sussex area. The club caters for all aspects of the varied sport of athletics from track and field to cross country to road races to ultra distance to trail races, relays and fun runs. 

Haywards Heath Junior Parkrun

Haywards Heath Junior Run is a 2k event for juniors only (4-14 year olds). If you are not a junior please try one of our weekly Saturday parkrun events instead. 

Haywards Heath Unctra Core Run Club

Part of UntraCore Fitness, the Haywards Heath Ultra Core Run Club offers courses for beginners, improvers and those who just want to run. Membership is merely a donation to the British Heart Foundation. The group meets every Thursday evening and has three leaders to take groups of all levels. 

J & M Running

J and M Running is all about getting people running in Mid Sussex, whatever their starting point​. They offer a variety of runs and courses suitable for all levels of runner. 


Run ABC South is a site which provides details of clubs, races and charity runs in the South of England.

Parkrun Clair Park

Parkrun Clair Park is a free weekly 5K run at Clair Park in Haywards Heath. After the run, the group heads to Waitrose Cafe for a coffee and a chat. Why not sign up and join them?
